If you're looking for affordable, comprehensive health coverage, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace is a great place to start. But let’s be honest—figuring out how to sign up for ACA insurance can feel overwhelming.

The good news? It’s easier than you think—and you don’t have to do it alone.

This step-by-step guide will walk you through everything you need to know to enroll in an ACA health insurance plan that fits your needs and your budget.

Signing up for ACA insurance starts with comparing plans that fit your family’s needs and budget.

💡 What Is ACA Insurance?

ACA insurance refers to health plans available through the Health Insurance Marketplace (also called the Exchange), created by the Affordable Care Act. These plans cover essential health benefits and cannot deny you for pre-existing conditions.

Most people who enroll qualify for subsidies that reduce the cost of premiums—and some may even pay $0/month.

📝 How to Sign Up for ACA Insurance

✅ Step 1: Know When You Can Enroll

There are two main times to sign up:

  • Open Enrollment (Nov. 1 – Jan. 15): Anyone can enroll during this period.

  • Special Enrollment Period (SEP): You can qualify outside of Open Enrollment if you’ve had a life change, like:

    • Loss of Medicaid or employer coverage

    • Marriage or divorce

    • Birth or adoption of a child

    • Move to a new state or county

💡 Not sure if you qualify for a SEP? We can help you find out in minutes.

✅ Step 2: Gather Your Information

Before applying, you’ll want to have the following ready:

  • Social Security numbers for everyone in your household

  • Estimated annual income for the year

  • Employer information (if applicable)

  • Immigration or citizenship documents (if not a U.S. citizen)

✅ Step 3: Estimate Your Subsidy

Most people qualify for a premium tax credit to help pay for their coverage. This is based on:

  • Household size

  • Estimated annual income

  • Zip code

💸 Pro tip: In 2025, subsidies are available to more people than ever—even those who didn’t qualify in the past.

We’ll calculate your subsidy for free and show you how much you could save.

✅ Step 4: Compare Plans

Once your subsidy is calculated, you can compare plan types:

  • Bronze Plans – Lowest monthly premium, higher out-of-pocket costs

  • Silver Plans – Balanced option (and required for cost-sharing reductions)

  • Gold/Platinum Plans – Higher premiums, lower out-of-pocket costs

We’ll help you compare plans side-by-side to find one that fits your budget and medical needs.

You can apply:
